Bewitched ~ 2005

23 Jan

bewitched.jpgI was so hoping for something else when this movie came out. The film is not an adaptation of the television series, but more of an homage. Instead of Samantha Stevens dealing with her mortal husband and her enduring mother Endora, the plot evolves around Jack Wyatt (played by Will Ferrell) who is wanting to remake the Bewitched TV series and is looking for the perfect actress to play Samantha.  In walks Nicole Kidman.

Nicole is a perfect Samantha, she even has the little twitch down.  But who told Will Ferrell he was funny.  I find him boring, obnoxious and just plain lack of talent.  Steve Carrell would have been a much better choice.  He is a little more funnier and talented than Ferrell. Shirely MacLaine is perfect as the actress who is playing Endora, who is also a real witch,as is Nicole’s character.

Overall this film tricked me, and not in a good way.  Nicole should stay away from films like this and Stepford Wives and stick with drama.  Will Ferrell, well he should just not make movies.  The plot would have worked, but unfortunately not in this film. D

    Plot/Review

Attempting to find a woman to play the character of the witch in a remake of the classic “Bewitched” television series, Will Ferrell (Jack) an egotistical man who doesn’t like to share the spotlight with anyone, runs into a real-life witch Nicole Kidman (Isabel), who he believes is the ideal person for the part. Of course, he doesn’t know that she’s a real witch. Isabel arrived in California hoping to live a normal life without using spells or magic but in the end, Isabel finds herself fall in love with Jack and reveals to him the truth.

“It may fly like a witch and twitch like a witch, but it’s certainly not the beloved Bewitched.” – quote

Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman have both always been very likeable actors. Putting them two together has created a tremendously success film. Even though “Bewitched” wasn’t a best-selling film/DVD, people still found this film amusing and a joy to watch.
